Retaining Wall Build in Pulaski, VA
A Pulaski homeowner was losing yard to erosion on a steep grade. We engineered and built a segmental retaining wall that stabilized the slope and reclaimed a flat, usable area behind the home.
Before
AfterRepresentative imagery of a completed retaining walls project.
The Challenge
A steep slope behind the property was eroding with every heavy rain, washing soil toward the house and leaving the yard unusable. The homeowners needed a structural solution that would hold back the grade and create level space.
Our Process
Site Assessment
We evaluated the slope, soil, and water flow to size the wall correctly and plan proper drainage behind it.
Excavation
We dug a level trench for the base course and cut back the slope to make room for the wall and backfill.
Base & First Course
A compacted gravel footing was set and the first course of block was leveled precisely — the key to a straight, lasting wall.
Wall Construction
Courses were stacked with proper setback, and a perforated drain pipe with gravel backfill was installed to relieve water pressure.
Backfill & Cap
We backfilled and compacted in lifts, then finished the top with cap blocks for a clean, durable edge.
Materials Used
The Result
The wall stopped the erosion, protected the home, and created a level, functional area the family can actually use. Built-in drainage keeps water pressure from ever threatening the structure.
